Day One: When 62-Year-Old Me Finally Started Living

Published: June 1, 2025

I woke up this morning with a simple question echoing in my head: “When was the last time you tried something for the first time?”

That question hit me harder than my morning coffee.

The honest answer? I couldn’t remember. And that scared the hell out of me.

The Tweet That Changed Everything

Earlier this week, I came across a tweet from Eddy Quan that stopped me cold:

“The most potent anti-aging drug known to man is: Always have one big challenge going on. One research shows older adults with a clear sense of purpose are 2.4 times less likely to get Alzheimer’s.”

At 62, I realized I wasn’t just risking boredom or regret—I was risking my brain. My future. My life.

So today, I made a decision that changes everything.

Welcome to My “Unavailable Year”

I’m officially declaring the next 12 months my “Unavailable Year.”

No more saying yes to everyone else’s projects while my dreams collect dust. No more helping others build their businesses while I stay stuck in the same job I’ve had for 36 years. No more “someday” or “when I retire” or “after things settle down.”

Today, I become unavailable to everything that doesn’t move me toward the life I actually want.

The 60 Firsts Challenge Begins

Here’s what I’m doing: systematically conquering 60 new challenges to prove it’s never too late to try something for the first time. I call it my 60 Firsts Challenge, and I’m documenting everything in real-time.

Some are quick wins (learning to juggle), others are life-changing (building a business that generates $15K+ per month). But every single one pushes me beyond my comfort zone.

Today’s progress:

  • ✅ Rebuilt my dormant website
  • ✅ Created my complete challenge framework
  • ✅ Officially started the journey
  • 🎯 Next up: Learning my first ukulele song

What I Built Today (Linear Execution in Action)

In the past, I would have spent months “planning” this transformation. Today, I actually did it.

Using what I call “Linear Execution”—focusing on ONE project until completion—I went from dormant website to complete transformation platform in a single day. No endless to-do lists. No analysis paralysis. Just systematic progress.

The result? A documented framework for the next 12 months that will take me from corporate employee to location-independent entrepreneur.

What Terrifies Me (And Why I’m Doing It Anyway)

I’m scared I’ll fail publicly. I’m scared I’m too old to learn new things quickly. I’m scared this will be another abandoned project in my long history of unfinished dreams.

But here’s what terrifies me more: staying exactly where I am for another year.

The research is clear—people with purpose live longer, healthier, more fulfilling lives. At 62, I don’t have decades to waste wondering “what if.”

My Promise to You

I’m going to document everything. The failures, the breakthroughs, the embarrassing moments when I can’t figure out basic ukulele chords. You’ll see it all.

Why? Because maybe watching someone actually start their transformation at 62 will inspire you to try something for the first time too.

This isn’t just about me getting unstuck—it’s about proving it’s never too late for any of us.

Day One Question for You

When was the last time you tried something for the first time?

If you can’t remember either, maybe it’s time we both started living again.

Today is Day One. Tomorrow is Day Two. The question is: are you coming along for the ride?
